Dr. Matthew Gallegos
PT, DPT, ATC
My name is Dr. Matthew Gallegos, and I am a licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer committed to helping individuals reclaim movement, independence, and quality of life. My career has been shaped by a deep dedication to serving people with complex neurological conditions—especially Parkinson’s disease—as well as those recovering from orthopedic injuries, surgery, or chronic pain.
I have extensive experience across outpatient neuro, outpatient orthopedics, skilled nursing, home health, and sports medicine settings, working with patients ranging in age from young adults to individuals well into their 90s. My professional background includes specialized treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other progressive neurological disorders. I provide evidence-based rehabilitation with a strong emphasis on motor control, gait restoration, balance training, neurodynamics, and pain neuroscience education. My work also includes substantial orthopedic and athletic rehabilitation, including treatment planning for collegiate and high school athletes and implementation of targeted home exercise programs.
Throughout my career, I’ve held contracts and clinical roles with respected organizations including Jackson Therapy Partners, The Virginian Rehabilitation and Wellness, Back In Motion Physical Therapy, and multiple home health agencies. I am trained and certified in LSVT BIG and LSVT BIG for Life, and maintain active certification as an Athletic Trainer and Basic Life Support provider. My approach integrates neurological expertise, orthopedic knowledge, and whole-person care to deliver results that are functional, meaningful, and long-lasting.
Beyond clinical practice, I am passionate about service and community impact. I have participated in multiple medical mission trips to Guatemala, providing pro bono physical therapy in regions with minimal access to care. I have served with adaptive sports programs such as Dreams in Motion and Homerun Heroes, supporting children and adults with mobility or visual impairments in experiencing athletic joy and inclusion. I have also worked alongside ministries supporting individuals facing homelessness, reinforcing my belief that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and high-quality care.
My academic training includes a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Wellness, both earned at the University of Mary. During my time there, I received several top honors, including the University of Mary Program of Physical Therapy Outstanding Student Award, the St. Catherine’s Medal, and the Presidential Student Leadership Award—recognitions that reflect my commitment to excellence, leadership, and service.
At the core of my practice is a simple mission: to help individuals move better, feel stronger, and live with greater confidence every single day. Whether navigating Parkinson’s, recovering from injury, rebuilding after surgery, or seeking to improve daily function, I strive to provide care that is personalized, evidence-driven, and grounded in genuine compassion.
